Why aren’t there good amazon.com or Yelp-like ratings for lawyers? Answer: any site like that would be hit with so many lawsuits it would make anybody’s head spin.

Good luck playing the eeny meeny miney mo game with lawyers. *Sigh*

It is true. The only way to pick a good one is by personal referral, but just because an attorney is excellent at entertainment industry contracts definitely doesn’t mean that you would want him or her representing you in a child custody hearing. For my divorce, I didn’t want the low-key guy who repsented my brother in his divorce a couple of years earlier; I wanted the woman who represented his wife, now ex. My brother’s veins still bulge out on his temples and he grits his teeth with anger every time he thinks of his wife’s attorney. Yes, she’s the one I wanted.

Thanks for the comment. I guess he didn’t do so well in the divorce. Yes, unfortunately, lawyers are not jacks-of-all-trades and I’m still suspicious of this hourly rate thing. Having worked at a company that did hourly billing, I know this can be abused. Also, the large tech company my man worked used lawyers for their patent applications that didn’t necessarily get the job done either. You just never know.
